Introduction
Public roads and footpaths are shared spaces. It requires all motorists and residents to be considerate and making them safe for all to use.
Public roads serving private residential estates are designed for different types of users. Besides residents, who are the main users, service vehicles from a number of agencies also need to use these roads. Ideally, for smooth flow of traffic movement, parking should not be allowed along public roads. However, we do recognise the parking need of the residents in some private estates.
Along selected roads where the residents can exercise certain degree of tolerance and cooperation, we do not restrict parking along these roads. However, motorists are still required to obey some basic rules such as prohibition of parking at junctions, fire hydrants and accesses. These basic rules can be enforced without the presence of any markings or signs.
